Nivritti [nivr^tti]: destruction; cessation of activity Pravritti [pruvr^tti]: pursuing what is desirable
"In this world there is a twofold path; the path of knowledge of the Sankhyas and the path of action of the Yogis."
—The Bhagavad Gita, Ch 3, Verse 3
"The Vedic dharma is verily twofold, characterised by Pravritti (social action) and Nivritti (inward contemplation), designed to promote order in the world; this twofold dharma has in view the true social welfare and spiritual emancipation of all beings."
—Sri Shankaracharaya (A.D. 788-820)
One of the greatest philosophers of India.
Operating in alternating modes called Yin and Yang and produces the Heaven and Earth and Air between, from which come all beings. The two modes of Its activity, Yin and Yang. Yin is rest, and therefore after the creation of the phenomenal world going back, retraction, concentration towards the original Unity (Nivritti), whereas Yang is action and therefore the opposite principle of going forth or expansion (Pravritti). These modes appear in creation under the sensible forms of Earth (Yin) and Heaven (Yang). The one original principle becomes dual in manifestation as Heaven-Earth from which emanate other existences. The state of Jinn is one of rest, concentration and imperceptibility which was the before time and things were. The state of fang is that of action, expansion, of manifestation in sentient beings and is the state of time, and that which is in a sense not its true state. All this again is Indian. The primal state before manifestation is that in which it rests in itself, that is, the state of rest and infinite formlessness. It then manifests the universe. There exists in this power the form of two rhythms, namely, the going forth or expanding (Pravritti) and the return or centering movement (Nivritti).
Trevor Ravenscroft: "(In Atlantis) under the symbol of the sun wheel or four-armed swastika,' the new (Aryan) Initiates took over the leadership of the race and became the mediators between the masses ... and the unseen higher powers. They taught a new religion ... (and) the Aryan peoples were led out of Atlantis by the great Manu, the last of the Sons of God or Supermen." In Hinduism the symbol signifies the two forms of Brahma, when clockwise, Pravritti, the universe flowing outward, when counter-clockwise (as in the Nazi version), Nirvritti, the involution of the universe. The "good" symbol is the fiery cross used by the original fire-priests of Persia. Its left arm goes up in receptivity and its right arm down in blessing; this the creative fire of the 3rd Logos, or Holy Spirit.
Although there are two directions for this symbol and its ancient history, most people only know the Nazi (SS) emblem.
